The answer of this question is both yes and no…
Vegetarians are a very healthy lifestyle, but despite that there are a lot of vegetarian food that could make you fat… especially the high carb intake. If you eat rice or bread to much, you wont loose weight.. – but although you gain weight, you won't gain fat as much as when you consume meat.. So it's healthier this way…
I got a Balinese friend, he's a capoeria instructor and a stuntman, and he's a veggie all the way… He's got a very good physical condition, great muscle tone, great stamina and the whole shebang..
So you could loose weight or not, that depends on your healthy lifestyle… One thing for sure, you could lose a lot of body fat and bad cholesterol by adapting the way of the green..
Best of luck..

Type viva in to yahoo or google, and there is a website (it may just be http://www.viva.com.
This gives a list of all the questions that meat eaters are bound to ask you, and clever answers. They are so true and really help.
the best thing to do is just to say, look im not going to get into an argument about this. It is pointless you trying to see my point of view;if you want to eat a dead body that is up to you.
Many people are shocked that i dont persuade them to be vegy with me!!!
Its hard to know what to do, but i guess you just have to deal with it. Thre are always people who ask dumb q'd. I was once asked 'if there was a dead chicken in front of you, and noone else was going to eat it, so it would die for nothing, would you eat it?' and its like, duh?! no, and anyway, would that ever happen?

Facts you could tell them:
We are not designed to eat meat(our teeth) just because we can digest it doesnt mean we should eat it (we can digest cardboard!!! would they eat that?)
half a million chickens are killed every day for mcdonalds.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Most vegetarian dishes are healthy, so yes, definitely incorporate them into you meal planning for the entire family. Your husband should set a good example for the kids by at least trying everything you prepare. You should not have to make an entire separate meal for just you. Let the kids involved, they will probably enjoy most of the food, just be wary of giving them soy (tofu, etc.), as that is not healthy for them.

I am not vegetarian, but I really enjoy vegetarian dishes, and like to try new ones all the time, and share them with the family.

Thats actually how i became a vegetarian. I didn't buy much meat at the grocery store (i'm in college and live away from home). So after not going home for an extended period of time, when i finally did eat meat it made me sick to my stomach. However, i'm more of a flexitarian because i make exceptions for fish (occasionally). Tofu and Seitan (wheat gluten) are good meat substitutes, and can be cooked just like meat. Do what you feel is best…can you cut it out cold turkey? if so, then go for it. If not, wean away from it. PETA also has a vegetarian starter kit that you can find at http://goveg.com/order.asp Good luck!

It is important to understand that there are people who live a vegetarian lifestyle for purely selfish reasons (myself included), and as such are less concerned with the death of other animals than they are with the health of themselves. With that being said;
The questions you raise are purely argumentative and combative. These arguments could go on and on, to the point where you're arguing such things like; vegetarians should not eat bread for the death of yeast, or breathe air for the reason that we "kill" oxygen (for we must then argue that everything is inherently "alive") when we exhale and produce carbon dioxide. These are arguments for the sake of arguing. Why not just let people live in peace under the terms they choose?
Sometimes we have to compromise for the greater good. Likewise, we couldn't allow a cockroach (rat, mouse, etc.) infestation to take hold for the sake of "non-cruelty" otherwise we, very foolishly, risk the health of ourselves.

I'm curious how many more people would become veggie if they had to slaughter their own dinner. Some people seem to think meat comes from the grocery store. Just ignore them. If they say god put animals here for us to eat you can point out that factory farms did not exist then- animals got to roam free and have a good life until the end.

Here are some benefits. Good luck with your paper!

I think committing yourself to a year makes it easier. That's how I went vegetarian about three years ago. I figured, okay, I'll commit to this diet for a full year. At the end of this year I have the choice to continue or go back to meat.

You can definitely do it for a year, it doesn't seem as daunting as "oh no, I'll be like this forever!" when you're craving a steak. It's more "oh, well, in a year I can eat this. I'll live."

By the end of the first year I was fine with remaining vegetarian.

So yeah, the basic thing is don't eat meat (yes, even chicken). Watch out for chicken/beef stock and broth in soups. Read labels – I once found fish oils in yogurt and beef stock in Little Debbie's carrotcake.

You will likely accidentally consume something, don't beat yourself up over it. As long as you're doing your very best reading labels and asking waiters about ingredients – and not purposely consuming meat products – you're still vegetarian.

Personally, I don't eat gelatin unless it's in a medication that I really need. I'm not going to make myself sick or put myself in ridiculous pain when I absolutely cannot find another option. But anyways, you'll find gelatin in jello, some gummy snacks, and other food products. Not every vegetarian seems to avoid this, but many do because it's made from animal parts.

You may want to look into cheese, some are made with animal rennet.

Health benefits depend on what you eat. You could be vegetarian by eating nothing but chocolate cake and fried mozzarella sticks – obviously fattening and not healthy. But if you eat vegetables, fruits, beans, whole grains, etc and avoid processed foods… well, that's great. You have a lower risk for a lot of diseases (cancer, cardiovascular disease, etc), just google it. Some studies suggest we live longer, but I don't know how strong that evidence is. I have super-low cholesterol, even for my age group.

Bad things? Nothing, unless your diet isn't nutritionally complete. Make sure you get enough protein, iron, zinc, omega 3s, and B12.

Make sure you don't eat tons of pasta and cheese like I did to replace meat, everything in healthy moderation.

Meat substitutes can help you transition, but some will argue that they aren't as healthy as they seem. I see nothing wrong with using them sparingly. From what I've read, soy may not be so healthy for you either unless it's fermented (like miso). I would limit it.

Hope that helps you out!
